Food AI Scanner (also listed as NutriScan / FoodCheck / Food Scanner)
Effective 12 September 2026 · Last updated 12 September 2026

This policy describes what the Food AI Scanner iOS app collects, why, and who it is shared with. It is written to match what the app actually does in its current released version.

1. No account, no sign-in

The app has no login, no registration and no user accounts. We do not ask for your name, and we do not collect your email address unless you choose to type it into the in-app feedback form.

2. What the app collects

Photos you scan

When you scan a product, the photo you take (or pick from your photo library) is sent to an AI provider to be analysed. This is the core function of the app and it cannot work offline.

Failed scans. In versions up to and including 6.0.2, when a scan failed, the image was also uploaded to our Firebase Firestore database so the failure could be diagnosed. That upload is removed in version 6.1, and the images already stored are being deleted. Nothing was ever published or shared with anyone outside the app's own developer.

Your profile answers

During onboarding you can tell the app your goal, your experience with nutrition, your dietary preferences and any allergies, along with age, height and weight. These answers are stored on your device. Your goal, experience level and dietary preferences are included in the request sent to the AI provider so the analysis can be tailored to you. Age, height and weight are used on-device.

Scan history

Your past scans and their results are stored locally on your device only. They are not uploaded to us and we cannot see them. Deleting the app deletes them.

Feedback you send

If you use the feedback form, the text you write is stored in our Firebase Firestore database together with a timestamp and your device identifier, so we can read and act on it.

Usage, crash and attribution data

The app includes third-party SDKs that collect usage and diagnostic data:

ServiceWhat it is used for
Firebase Analytics (Google)Which screens and features are used, and whether scans succeed
Firebase Crashlytics (Google)Crash and error diagnostics
AppsFlyerMeasuring which marketing campaign an install came from
Meta (Facebook) SDKApp events and advertising measurement
Google Ads on-device conversionAdvertising conversion measurement
RevenueCatManaging subscriptions and purchase state
Firebase App CheckVerifying requests come from the genuine app

Device identifier

The app uses Apple's Identifier for Vendor (identifierForVendor) to tell devices apart. It is specific to this developer's apps on your device and is reset if you delete the app. It is not your Apple ID and it does not identify you personally.

3. Tracking and the IDFA

The app does not show an App Tracking Transparency prompt and therefore does not have permission to access your device's advertising identifier (IDFA). Without that permission iOS does not provide the IDFA to any SDK in the app.

4. Permissions the app asks for

PermissionWhy
CameraTo photograph a product's label or barcode for analysis
Photo libraryTo let you pick an existing photo to analyse
NotificationsOptional. To tell you when a scan or report is ready, and for reminders you enable

Each is optional and can be changed at any time in iOS Settings. Declining the camera or photo permission prevents scanning.

5. Payments

Subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple. We never see or receive your payment card details. RevenueCat records which subscription is active so the app can unlock paid features. To manage or cancel a subscription, use Settings on your iPhone or the Manage Subscription link inside the app.

6. How long data is kept

7. Who your data goes to

We do not sell your data. It is shared only with the providers that make the app work:

8. Children

The app is rated 12+ and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Your choices and rights

10. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, the effective date at the top will change and the updated version will be published at this address.
